I know just enough about science to know that it's way over my head...

Peter reminded me around Christmas of something that I've "known" but never really considered thoughtfully. As far as I know, it's accurate to say that atoms are about 99.9999999% "empty" space. Pondering that idea really throws me for a loop.

I find it really amazing that such nearly unfathomably small things emit the forces that keep my hands from whizzing right through the keyboard. I'll write about something that I have more informed thoughts on soon, but maybe Peter will leave some nugget of scientific brilliance here in the meantime.

Ready... Set... Blog

Since this is my first blog post, it seems fitting to lay out a bit of info regarding my reasons for embarking upon this little endeavor.  The blog gets its name from the highest hope I have regarding it, the hope that my friends (who happen to be among the smartest and funniest people in the world) will use this place as a forum for kicking around ideas, sharing funny stories, and generally continuing to make my life as rich as they have for the last 22 years.

Some specific hopes: (Imagine a dramatic drumroll…)

°         I hope Laura Dalton shares some stories here.  Laura is quite possibly the single most entertaining person alive, and I feel there should be a platform for getting her awesome stories out to the world.  Maybe she will start guest-blogging here.

°         I hope people will share their thoughts with me.  I miss Millsaps.  Classes brought together some of the brightest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and turned them loose on myriad issues with very little fear of where the discussion might go.  I want that back in my life, so I'm going to use a few of my posts to float my own thoughts on various issues.  I hope those who happen upon this blog critique those thoughts, suggest further reading, tell me I'm ridiculous… I love nothing more than dialogue.

°         I hope that the word "hope" doesn't appear in the next few posts.  It needs a rest.
